Release Tension in the Low Back With These Two Pilates Exercises

Do you suffer from low back pain? You’re not alone.

About two-thirds of adults will suffer from low back pain at some point in their lives, making it the most common work-related disability in people under 45, according to an academic article published in BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders.

Low back pain is an especially common ailment among desk and office workers who spend so many hours in the same sedentary position.

The good news is, Pilates exercises have been found to have a positive effect on those with low back pain, reducing pain and improving functional outcomes. Exercise therapy is generally recommended worldwide as one of the first forms of treatment for low back pain and Pilates is a safe and effective way to apply that. (It’s important to talk to your medical provider before starting any new exercise program.)

In the video above, Merrithew® Lead Instructor Trainer Sarah Jarvis demonstrates two Pilates exercises using the Stability Ball with Base that can help release tension in the low back. Take a break at your desk and give these exercises a try!
