Focus on Heart Health
During the month of February, many countries around the world shine the spotlight on the importance of heart health. An inactive lifestyle is one of the top risk factors for heart disease. Luckily, it's a risk factor that you can take control of. Regular exercise, especially aerobic movement, has many benefits.
Incorporating flexibility, cardiovascular and strengthening components to your mindful movement exercise routine will help keep your heart healthy:
- Stretching the arms and legs before and after exercising helps prepare the muscles for activity and helps prevent injury and muscle strain. Regular stretching also increases your range of motion and flexibility.
- Cardiovascular (aerobic) activity strengthens the heart and lungs and improves the body's ability to use oxygen. Aerobic exercise has the most benefits for your heart – accessorizing your Reformer with the Cardio-Tramp™® Rebounder or Jumpboard for plyometric movements will increase your heart rate while exercising! Over time, aerobic exercise can help decrease your blood pressure at rest and improve your breathing, one of the most pivotal principles in mind-body exercise.
- Strength and resistance training will repeat muscle contractions (tightening) until the muscle becomes tired.
All of our mind-body modalities, STOTT PILATES®, ZEN•GA™, CORE™ Athletic Conditioning & Performance Training™ and Total Barre™ emphasize these essential activity components, which ones will you be doing this month to maintain heart health? Keep moving and keep your heart happy!
