To the Beat: Create Great Barre Classes

Total Barre New York Symposium

Choreography can be a challenge. Matching moves to beats, choosing the right music—it's a lot to consider and can intimidate even the most seasoned Instructor.

But there's no denying that Barre is hot. According the Sports & Fitness Association, as of 2015 there are over 3 million Barre participants in the U.S. alone. With a demographic like that, you can't afford to miss out.

We know that planning a great Total Barre® class can seem like an insurmountable task. Designing a workout to music is very different than building one without it, but you don't have to be a trained dancer to create an inspiring Total Barre class. In response to your feedback, we are introducing a new workshop to demystify choreography and playlists. We will show you how to choreograph an incredible Total Barre workout all the way from the music to the moves.

You'll learn how to motivate clients and deliver exceptional results that will keep them coming back for more. Learn how to select music, hear counts, phrases and develop a music vocabulary, practice techniques that inspire clear, high-quality movement sequences through positive verbal and visual cuing and practice creating choreography that flows, making learning, teaching and retaining choreography fun and easy.

You'll leave this interactive session ready for your next class, with an 11-segment playlist, 4 new choreographed segments and one additional segment created by you.

We'll be introducing the Total Barre® Creating Great Choreography to Music – Part 1 & 2 workshop at the 2016 Merrithew Mindful Movement Symposium being held from April 29–May 1 at the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York. It's a four-hour workshop split into two time slots, and is an excellent opportunity to expand and fine-tune your offerings as an Instructor.
