Behind the Scenes

In our new Behind-the-Scenes feature, we’ll take you around the world to see other studios, meet international mind-body educators, and give you a glimpse into what it’s like to work with MERRITHEW™ (MH&F)! For our first feature, we join Director of Education Services, Lesley Hopps, to learn more about her worldwide work with our Licensed Training Centers.

As a member of our Education Services team, one of my favorite perks of the job is getting to travel around the world to visit our global community of Licensed Training Centers (LTCs) and meet with LTC owners to find out how we can help enhance their business. Over the last few weeks, my travels have taken me to Montreal, Dublin, London & The Hague to learn about what our LTCs are doing and how they’re offering amazing experiences to students of mind-body exercise and soon-to-be instructors. Take a glimpse into the great things they’re doing and maybe take away some inspiration for your facility’s offerings!

Studio Praxis - Montreal, Canada

Owner Jane Underhill has taken great care to provide a beautiful space for her clients and students to feel at home. Studio Praxis and its facilities are warm and inviting, and include great bonuses like complimentary WiFi, personal amenities, tea, espresso and snacks for students and clients alike. To ensure that the bilingual population is properly catered to, she offers training in both English and French.

Jane works hard to be a well-rounded mind-body resource for the local community, bringing in new programming like ZEN•GA, Total Barre and the MELT method for both clients and students. She looks forward to increasing focus in the next year on providing education other areas of Quebec and Ottawa.

Complete Body Movement – Dublin, Ireland

Offering a large, private and inviting space for students to learn and clients to train, owner Dani Gonzalez Ares strives to provide the best to her students by constantly investing in her own education to ensure she teaches with a well-rounded perspective. Complete Body Movement features outdoor spaces for students to get a breath of fresh air and is also just a quick five-minute walk away from the beach, a popular spot for students to enjoy a break.

Complete Body Movement will also be catering to the large community of physiotherapists in Ireland by offering STOTT PILATES Rehab courses this summer taught by resident IT and Neuromuscular Physical Therapist Joe McCarthy, who has just added Rehab IT to his list of qualifications.

YMCAfit – London, UK

Home of our UK Symposiums, students from across the globe train in central London in the world’s first YMCA. Historically known for traditional fitness, YMCAfit is now bringing an increased focus on being a mind-body fitness and education provider, now offering all four of MERRITHEW’ education programs.

I visited this go-to destination for fitness professionals just before the kick-off of our annual UK Symposium, a part of the Merrithew Mindful Movement Tour. All of the LTC staff were hard at work preparing the Pilates Studio and neighbouring spaces to be taken over for three days by almost 200 Instructor Trainers and Instructors seeking the latest training in mindful movement.

K'dans – The Hague, Netherlands

Owner, Jolanda Hoefnagel is invested in creating the best possible learning environment for students, offering hands-on guidance, bringing in guest Instructor Trainers to expose students to different teaching styles and areas of specialty.

Located in a converted schoolhouse that provides unique spaces and flexibility to offer client classes, education and community classes Jolanda exerts an ongoing effort to create a true sense of community amongst her instructors, clients and students and aspires for k’dans to be a place of learning, self-improvement and growth for all.
