Education: Foundational Movement

Having a full grasp of the building blocks of movement is essential in helping clients prevent injury and move safely through a workout.

In Programming for Foundational Movement, a new workshop from the Merrithew programming team, learn to execute exercise variables, including fascial movement concepts, to increase mobility and dynamic stability in client movements. Designed to assist Instructors by teaching tools with which to fine tune exercise programs, Programming for Foundational Movement focuses on helping Instructors improve clients’ overall physical condition, thereby making them more resilient to injury.

Participants will:

  • learn basic foundational movement patterns to help assess a client’s mobility, stability, balance and sensory awareness
  • experience a standing, dynamic, multi-planar warm-up incorporating the STOTT PILATES® Five Basic Principles and these foundational movement patterns
  • explore new ways to add a variety of props or modify a program depending on a client’s form and physical function
  • learn to exercise modifications and variations that include fascial movement concepts to develop a program specific to client needs
