When did you start with Merrithew and what was your position?
I started in 1998 in the Accounting Department. After working in the Accounting Department for a few years, I moved into the Sales Department and have held various positions throughout the years.
How have you seen the company change in the years you have been here?
Over the past 15 years, one of the largest changes in the company has been the increase in the number of employees. When I first started there were about 17 people and now we have around 105. The number of products has also increased tremendously, with the biggest change in the number of DVDs we are offering. We have gone from one video (Essential Matwork) to about 150 DVD titles (many available in multiple languages). On the Commercial Equipment side, the addition of stackable Reformers to our line in 2003 and the introduction of the V2 Max Plus™ technology have also changed the way people set up their studios.
What has been your favourite moment/experience since you have been here?
My favorite experiences have been meeting with all of our partners at the Community of Excellence Conferences we host for our partners every 2 years. As the number of Licensed Training Centers continue to grow both here in North America and internationally, it is a great experience for me to meet with the individuals that I often only know through email. Developing friendships and seeing these friends return each time is a great pleasure for me.
What do you think MH&F’s biggest accomplishment has been over the past 25 years?
I think the biggest accomplishment has been the expansion in the number of training centers. We now have Licensed Training Centers in at least 25 different countries with hosting centers in many others. Including our Corporate Training Center here in Toronto, this group has trained over 35,000 instructors in the STOTT PILATES® method.
Why do you enjoy what you do?
The most enjoyable thing about what I do is the people I meet on a daily basis. For the most part, I help my customers get equipment and materials to their studios, or sometimes homes. To do this, I need to work closely with production, accounting, IT and occasionally other departments. Not only are my customers a pleasure to work with, but also my co-workers. When you wake up in the morning and enjoy going to work because of both the people you work with and your customers, then you have a pretty good job.
What are you most looking forward to in 2013 in the Company?
I am looking forward to the exciting launch of our new products and brands; ZEN•GA™, CORE™ and Stability Barre™. I can’t wait to see how these new brands are going to help the company continue to grow over the next few years.
