TORONTO, June 25, 2013 – Created exclusively by the Merrithew® team, the high-energy and dynamic Total Barre® program integrates elements of Pilates, dance, cardio and strength training to create programming that is fully expandable and adaptable to any fitness professional’s client base.

Based on Merrithew’ 25 years of developing safe and responsible exercise, Total Barre is designed to emphasize the correct biomechanics of movement combined with the power of music to increase strength, flexibility, stamina and dynamic stability. Total Barre is the safest and most impactful barre program available – and no dance experience required! Designed for fitness or movement professionals, Total Barre training enables Instructors to produce safe, effective and varied programs to address the needs and goals of their clients.

“Our goal is to continuously provide superior programming, services and equipment lines for professional and consumer use," explained Lindsay G. Merrithew, President and CEO, Merrithew. "Total Barre adds diversity to our current program offerings while capitalizing on the dance and barre fitness trend the industry is currently experiencing.”

The Total Barre Instructor Foundation Course teaches choreography, exercise essence and correct biomechanics of movement, as well as how to effectively utilize music to create safe and fun classes. Upon completion of the Instructor Foundation Course, students receive access to the Total Barre Online Resource area, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to design and teach highly evolved Total Barre fitness classes. Successful completion of the course earns participants 0.7 CECs with STOTT PILATES and other organizations.

“We’ve applied our years of experience and scientific research to develop a program that is driven by music,” said Moira Merrithew, co-creator of the STOTT PILATES® method and Executive Director of Education, Merrithew. “Music, when used appropriately, has been proven to increase co-ordination, motivation and to improve movement quality. There are countless ways to keep your classes interesting and fun just by the choice of music you use.”

The Total Barre program is designed to be fully expandable and adaptable, allowing instructors to tailor workouts to suit their clients. Currently, two tracks are available: Total Barre Endurance with Music™ and Total Barre Power & Strength. Within these tracks, the focus can be placed on developing increased muscular and physical endurance, or on creating a more powerful body with greater overall strength. Total Barre’s strong foundation  lends itself well to the production of additional tracks with broader appeal.

The Total Barre Instructor Foundation Course and Workshops are available now on stops of the Merrithew Mindful Movement World Tour and at STOTT PILATES Corporate and Licensed Training Centers.
