Well-designed fitness programs can be a saving grace for women recovering from breast cancer surgery and treatment. This workshop, developed by the Merrithew™ programming team, discusses various types of surgeries, reconstruction techniques and their associated treatments. Muscular imbalances, medication side effects and specific exercise requirements are examined with an eye to creating a safe and effective exercise program. Targeted exercises on the mat and on the Reformer with Toning Balls™ focus on improving range of motion, addressing postural alignment, increasing strength and mobility and gaining overall day-to-day functionality.

Learning objectives

  1. Identify different types of breast cancer surgery and the side effects of each.
  2. Understand how selected STOTT PILATES® Matwork and Reformer exercises target specific muscle groups to begin rebalancing them.
  3. Discover specific contraindications and concerns for individual cases.
  4. Learn how specific modifications increase effectiveness and safety for individual clients.
