Lead Instructor Trainers

The designation of Lead Instructor Trainer is awarded to an individual who inspires others through leadership and the Merrithew Community of Excellence philosophy. These Instructor trainers have a strong sense of team and demonstrated commitment to ensuring consistency and continual growth in the STOTT PILATES® method. A Lead IT has recognized experience teaching both teachers-in-training as well as private and group clients, and has been empowered with educating our worldwide network of instructors in valuable repertoire and curriculum additions.

Bio

Nate Teng received his STOTT PILATES® certification in 2003, and became the first Chinese- speaking certified Instructor Trainer for Merrithew in 2010. He went on to become a Lead Instructor Trainer for Merrithew specializing in STOTT PILATES. He has been devoted to the fitness industry for more than 16 years. He is an American College of Sport Medicine (ACSM) Health and Fitness Specialist as well as an Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) CE Provider in Taiwan. From 2007 to 2009, he was a consultant for fitness development with 3 fitness centers of various sizes in Taiwan. Nate is the owner of Alignment Fitness Studio in Taipei City, Taiwan, the Merrithew Taipei Licensed Training Center. He supervises 12 instructors and enjoys inspiring aspiring trainers to reach their goals. Previously he was with Alexander Health Club, one of the biggest fitness organizations in Asia, as a trainer and a manager of the fitness department in one of its Taipei branches. Nate has trained over 200 instructors in Taiwan since 2010. His goal is to promote STOTT PILATES in Taiwan and in other Chinese speaking countries.

Bio

Pablo is an Instructor Trainer for Merrithew, specializing in STOTT PILATES® as a Lead IT, certified Physiotherapist and the Education Director at Akro Studio, a Merrithew Licensed Training Center in Spain. Working as a Physiotherapist, specializing in sport, osteopathy, and movement disorders, at a studio in Spain, Pablo was drawn to Pilates as a tool to help his patients restore movement and function to their bodies. He decided to expand on his physiotherapy education to become STOTT PILATES certified in 2004 and became an Instructor Trainer in the same year. Pablo also works at the European University of Madrid as an external teacher in the Continuous Education and Masters of Physiotherapists departments. Pablo enjoys continually incorporating STOTT PILATES into his clients and patients rehab programs with great success.

Bio

Paulina first became certified as a STOTT PILATES® Instructor in 2004 and later became a Lead Instructor Trainer for Merrithew specializing in STOTT PILATES, Total Barre® and ZEN•GA® Mat. Prior to her career in the fitness industry, Paulina was a dancer, having graduated with a degree in Dance Kinesiology at the National Dance School of Mexico. Paulina has been teaching the STOTT PILATES method for over a decade both nationally and internationally. She has taught and presented at numerous venues throughout North and South America, the Caribbean and Asia. After finishing university in Japan and being actively involved in dance, Rie avidly pursued her interest in the human body and moved to Toronto, Canada. She received her STOTT PILATES® certification in 2006, excelling further and becoming an Instructor Trainer for Merrithew specializing in STOTT PILATES in 2008. Rie is currently the Programming Coordinator of Education for Merrithew at the Toronto Head Office, while continually providing valuable sessions and high quality education as an Instructor Trainer for students from around the world. She has recently added new expertise to her qualifications, as a Registered Homeopath, furthering her passion to help people in the pursuit of health and wellness.

Sarah Jarvis joined the Merrithew team in 2004 after completing her Full Certification in STOTT PILATES® and is now a STOTT PILATES Lead Instructor Trainer and an Instructor Trainer specializing in ZEN•GA® Mindful Movement, Halo® Training, and Total Barre®. Sarah has trained under multiple Merrithew Master Instructor Trainers, including Moira Merrithew, PJ O’Clair, Wayne Seeto and Stefania Michas, and she regularly teaches Instructor and Instructor Trainer courses for ZEN•GA and Total Barre at the Merrithew Corporate Training Center in Toronto, Canada. Sarah has extensive experience in planning and implementing Merrithew education programming, and extensive knowledge and experience in teaching and developing Merrithew branded programs. She is a mentor to internationally-trained Instructor Trainers, and for over a decade has presented on behalf of Merrithew throughout North America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.

Sarah began teaching aerobics and weight training classes while finishing her degree in Business Administration at the University of Windsor. While working in sales and managing a club, she soon discovered STOTT PILATES exercise. Intrigued by the method and the ability to strengthen and refocus the mind and body, she made the transition from the high-impact training world and continues to witness the impact these programs have made all over the world. Sarah is also canfitpro certified and continues to stay current by attending workshops/courses within the field.

Bio

Saulo Ouverney holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Physical Education.

As a teenager, Saulo was a gymnast and competed in sports aerobics for eight years. After graduating university he taught fitness classes and private strength training, bringing the mental training he used to have as an athlete to his clients.

In 2006 he was introduced to the Pilates Method and it became his passion. By 2007 he was running his own Pilates studio.

In 2009, he discovered STOTT PILATES®. He decided to leave his job and move to São Paulo to pursue it. In 2013 he became an IT and Merrithew Lead Instructor Trainer in 2017.

Saulo had a great experience living for a year and a half in the Middle East teaching Pilates, GYROTONIC® and Total Barre®. In 2016, Saulo audited many STOTT PILATES courses at the Corporate Training Center in Toronto.

Saulo is passionate about Merrithew programs, biomechanics and exercise physiology. As he continues along his chosen career path, he is always searching for the latest news and innovations to keep himself up-to-date on the latest in mindfulness and fitness.

Bio

Sheri’s first career was as a college professor after earning a Ph.D. from Harvard University. She loved teaching, but her passion was with sport and wellness rather than economics. She began training in Pilates in 2002, and although her interest in sports shifted, her dedication to Pilates persisted. Sheri loved how it improved her performance in all sports, and Pilates proved invaluable when rehab was required for running injuries. In 2007, she became certified in STOTT PILATES®, and in 2012, she moved on to become a Lead Instructor Trainer for Merrithew specializing in STOTT PILATES Mat & Reformer. She then added Total Barre® and CORE Instructor Trainer qualifications in 2013 and 2014. Building on her love of teaching and coaching students, clients and athletes, she holds ACE certifications in personal training and health coaching, and is a running coach for USA Track & Field.

Bio

A professional ballet dancer for more than 12 years, Stephanie was introduced to the STOTT PILATES® method during her rehabilitation from a back injury. After retiring from the stage in 2001, Stephanie worked as a ballet instructor and an administrator in the Classical Ballet Training Program at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center.  Her desire to give the students in the program the valuable benefit of Pilates prompted her to become a STOTT PILATES Certified Instructor.  In 2003 she founded Pilates Movement Studio and became an Instructor Trainer for Merrithew™ specializing in STOTT PILATES in 2008.

Bio

Tessa Crofton is the founder and director of West Coast Pilates and Health Inc., which has been located in Victoria, BC for the past 17 years. Tessa has always had a passion for movement and physical health, and is a well-known member of British Columbia’s Pilates community, as well as a valuable resource, leader, and mentor to Instructors. She is a certified personal trainer, group fitness leader and strength trainer. In 2000, Tessa became an Instructor Trainer for Merrithew™ specializing in STOTT PILATES® and ZEN•GA® and is also a Lead Instructor Trainer.  She also holds multiple certifications with BCRPA and Canfitpro and has been a Presenter on behalf of Merrithew at the Canfitpro Conference in Vancouver the past 2 years. Tessa works with physiotherapy patients on the road to recovery, triathletes and fitness enthusiasts to enhance their athletic performance, and breast cancer survivors to rebuild their strength and spirit. Tessa practices Pilates and other mindful movement modalities to improve flexibility, strength and endurance in her own athletic endeavors. Her passion for learning and sharing continuing education has helped Tessa become a sought-after teacher and Lead Instructor Trainer.
