Lead Instructor Trainers

The designation of Lead Instructor Trainer is awarded to an individual who inspires others through leadership and the Merrithew Community of Excellence philosophy. These Instructor trainers have a strong sense of team and demonstrated commitment to ensuring consistency and continual growth in the STOTT PILATES® method. A Lead IT has recognized experience teaching both teachers-in-training as well as private and group clients, and has been empowered with educating our worldwide network of instructors in valuable repertoire and curriculum additions.

Bio

Kim first received her certification as an Instructor Trainer for Merrithew™ specializing in STOTT PILATES® Rehab in 2007 and is now a Lead Instructor Trainer specializing in Injuries & Special Populations and Rehabilitation. An American Physical Therapy Association Orthopedic Certified Specialist, Kim has Masters Degrees in Manual/Orthopedic Physical Therapy and Sports Physical Therapy, as well as a PhD in Instructional Technology.  Kim is also an Associate Professor at Wayne State University’s Department of Physical Therapy, an international presenter and has been published on Physical Therapy topics.  With extensive experience in applying the STOTT PILATES principles to clients with injuries and impairments, Kim uses the method with clients at Equilibrium as well as providing evaluation and consultation for acute performing arts and sports injuries.

Bio

Kimber McQueen is the Program Director and Owner of BALANCE: Pilates Training Center in Richmond, VA. She has a BFA in Performance and Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University and a BA in Sociology from James Madison University. While rehabilitating a broken foot, Kimber discovered Pilates and was instantly hooked. In May of 1999, she received her certification in STOTT PILATES®, and opened her studio later that year. In 2004, Kimber was invited to become an Instructor Trainer for Merrithew™ specializing in STOTT PILATES, and that August, BALANCE was named the Licensed Training Center of Virginia. She became a Total Barre™ IT in 2013, along with her qualifications in ZENGA™ Mat and CORE™ Athletic Conditioning & Performance Training™. During her career, Kimber has had the pleasure of working with clients of all fitness levels and abilities— from professional athletes to those with special issues and everyone in between. It this experience that has resulted in the development of a clear and precise teaching style dedicated to helping her clients achieve measurable results.

Kristi received her MA in Dance at American University in Washington, D.C. in 1997, with core competencies in teaching, kinesiology, and choreography. She has danced professionally throughout the U.S. and across Europe before becoming an Instructor Trainer for Merrithew and a Lead IT for STOTT PILATES® in 2002. Kristi realizes her passion for training new Pilates Instructors at Bodycenter Studios, her studio and a Licensed Training Center for the STOTT PILATES method in Seattle, Washington.

Leslie Braverman

Bio

Leslie was a 15 year professional dancer when she was led to the STOTT PILATES® because of an injury and credits the method for prolonging her career. Leslie became a Certified Instructor in 1997 and an Instructor Trainer for Merrithew™ in 2002. She was most recently awarded the designation of Lead IT for STOTT PILATES, which qualifies her to mentor other Instructor Trainers around the world. Throughout her dance career, she performed with the Cleveland San Jose Ballet, Oregon Ballet Theatre and BODYVOX.  As a young dancer, she was a student of The North Carolina School of the Arts and was awarded the 1988 Peabody Scholarship Award for Excellence. Leslie loves utilizing her experience to train dancers, athletes, fitness clients and aspiring instructors. She has been co-owner of Pacific NW Pilates since its launch in 2001, and takes a primary role in managing and marketing the studio.

Bio
Formerly a professional dancer, Leslie was introduced to the STOTT PILATES® method after an extensive knee injury and a multitude of surgeries ending her career as a dancer. Her familiarity with body movement and muscular strength made the transition to Pilates feel completely natural. She quickly advanced herself in the industry and is now an Instructor Trainer for Merrithew specializing in Total Barre and is a Lead IT for STOTT PILATES. She is a valued member of the Merrithew education team and presents on their behalf. Leslie continues to train both future instructors and private clients including Cirque du Soleil performers, NHL Players, Olympic athletes and is an adviser/instructor to “SpiderTech Kinesiology” Executives.

Bio

A former Indonesian athlete in badminton and swimming, Lily became a STOTT PILATES® Certified Instructor in 2004, and an Instructor Trainer for Merrithew specializing in STOTT PILATES in 2007. In 2012, she was named a Lead Instructor Trainer. She is also is Certified Redcord Active Instructor Trainer. Based at the Merrithew Licensed Training Center in Jakarta, Indonesia, this high-energy Indonesian native has traveled to present workshops and teach the STOTT PILATES method around the world. Lily’s vibrant and down-to-earth attitude has made her one of Indonesia’s most respected Pilates personalities. In addition, Lily is a regular contributor for leading health, fitness and women's magazines and a member of the advisory board for Pilates in SHAPE Magazine Indonesia. Teaching is a part of her never ending pursuit of knowledge as to what she believes "We learn so much more when we are teaching."

Originally from a photography background, Lisa decided to pursue her passion of movement and the human body by becoming STOTT PILATES® certified in 2005 and then an Instructor Trainer for Merrithew™ specializing in STOTT PILATES the following year. In 2016, Lisa received special recognition as a Lead Instructor Trainer for STOTT PILATES. Lisa and her studio, The Movement Lab, pride themselves on providing a nurturing atmosphere and close personal attention to every client and student.

Bio
A professional dancer, Marcela was first introduced to Pilates as a means of conditioning. She became a STOTT PILATES® Certified Instructor in 2001 and in 2007 she progressed to the level of Lead Instructor Trainer for Merrithew specializing in STOTT PILATES. Marcela’s long history with body movement began with training in classical dance in her native Argentina and moved on to contemporary dance in New York City. She has danced with Ballet Proarte in Argentina, the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, and Ballet de l’Opera de Paris, and holds a French National Diploma in Ballet Teaching and a National Certification from the American Ballet Theatre. Able to teach in English, French and Spanish, Marcela’s passion is an integrated education with a focus on strong technique, a healthy body and a free spirit.

Bio
Known for his clinical knowledge, endless humor, and abundant energy, Marshall earned his first fitness certification and began training clients in 1986.  He holds a Masters degree with a special emphasis in Biomechanics and Athletic Training and has been an Instructor Trainer for Merrithew™ specializing in STOTT PILATES®

and a Licensed Training Center owner since 2002.  Marshall presents on behalf of Merrithew and is the proud owner of Marshall Eklund Fitness & Pilates.  The studio opened in 1998 and has been featured in San Diego Magazine’s “Best of San Diego”.  Marshall divides his time between client assessment, staff development, instructor training, and writing.

Bio

Mary Jo has had a long history in the fitness industry, beginning in 1993 as an Aerobics Instructor.  She fist received her certification as a STOTT PILATES® Certified Instructor in 2002, and quickly moved on to become an Instructor Trainer for Merrithew™ specializing ZEN•GA™ in 2013, Total Barre™ in 2013 and is a Lead IT for STOTT PILATES. Since becoming certified, Mary Jo has taught courses throughout the Unites States, and internationally as well.  In addition to her STOTT PILATES Certification, Mary Jo is also a certified White Lotus Yoga Instructor and a Mad Dogg® Spinning Instructor.  She specializes in creating workouts for all fitness levels and helping each of her clients to reach their fitness goals.
