Improvisation for the Fitness Instructor

Special Workshop - offered with Symposium registration. Limited spots available.

Improvisation for the Fitness Instructor offers new ways to "think outside the box" when it comes to teaching a group class, private session and even your co-workers. You will learn fun ways to increase your presence, discover an inner and authentic confidence, trust your instincts and think on your feet. Learning the art of improvisation will transform you into a more positive, creative teacher while building more effective communication skills. This workshop is being taught by comedy and performance veterans who work and "play" in the fitness industry: Melissa McNamara (Lead STOTT PILATES IT), Chris Bashen (STOTT PILATES Trained Instructor) and Gavin Donnellan (ACE Personal Trainer). Check out their comedy Pilates web series: www.thestudiowebseries.com for more!

General Course Objectives:

  • Learn the basics of improvisation including "Yes, And" techniques that can be transferred into teaching skills, group dynamics, and even within your fitness team. These techniques can help alter even your clients own behavioral fitness patterns
  • Gain confidence and experience how to increase your presence and command space when teaching groups
  • Explore new ways of delivering material in a way that can be received by your clients
  • Find ways to incorporate humor into your classes while still being serious about their form
  • Learn fun "games" to incorporate into classes!

Space is very limited so please RSVP to Kim Howard at kim.howard@merrithew.com as soon as possible to reserve your spot.

Testimonials

Corinne Harle

STOTT PILATES® Certified, and Total Barre and ZEN•GA® Qualified Instructor

I have attended three Merrithew Mindful Movement Symposiums. It is an excellent opportunity to train with Master Instructor Trainers, get current information, new programming options and to travel. I'm always excited to return to the studio and share what I have learned with my clients. My clients are willing to be test subjects as I try out new material. I feel re-energized and excited to get back in the studio after attending. I'm a big believer in continuing education and Merrithew does an excellent job of providing quality training. I'm already looking forward to attending another symposium. I really enjoy the format.

Kelley Berting

STOTT PILATES®, Total Barre and ZEN•GA® Instructor Trainer

I thought the Merrithew Fascial Movement Course was amazing. The layout of course was well designed, with a good balance of technical and practical information. P.J. was very inspirational as always and new knowledge will be a great compliment to both ZEN•GA® and STOTT PILATES® repertoire. It made me think of my own body and movement in a whole new way. The facility was beautiful and the weekend was well organized. I would definitely attend another symposium in the future.

Laurie Starr

STOTT PILATES® Certified and ZEN•GA® Qualified Instructor

Moira Merrithew, P.J. O'Clair and Kim Kraushar are at the forefront of Mindful Movement! They are teaching the vocabulary, technique and knowledge of movement needed to help yourself or your clients. The benefits are universal to all body types with levels of modifications that afford an opportunity of greater flexibility and better posture! If you get a chance to go to Merrithew Mindful Movement Symposium, I highly recommend it!

Martina Sprague

STOTT PILATES® Certified and CORE Qualified Instructor

I've attended the Merrithew Mindful Movement Symposium in New York City two years in a row. I love the variety of workshops and courses available with world class Instructor Trainers. The content is always new and innovative. This year, I was able to attend a workshop with Moira Merrithew! I also enjoy getting to meet other Pilates Instructors from all over the world. The networking with other instructors and studio owners is invaluable. I will definitely continue to attend future symposiums.
