Senior Web Developer

Position overview

Using Microsoft technologies and object-oriented design the Senior Web Developer position plays a vital role in the ongoing creation, enhancement and growth of Merrithew’s digital presence. Working with various stakeholders the incumbent will design, code and implement software solutions, develop integrations with existing systems, lead the development of standards, best practices and methodologies, and support the maintenance of existing applications.

This includes, but is not limited to establishing development best practices, creating static and dynamic applications, developing custom features and controls, managing projects, mentoring team members and leading our technical innovation. Scope of work and projects will span website, online applications, system enhancements and integrations, digital property optimization and more.

Highly competent communication and interpersonal skills are required for this position, as you will directly interface with multiple stakeholders, including senior management, sales, product and education teams and within the IT team on a daily basis. This position has two direct reports and reports to the Senior Director of Digital Technology.

Major responsibilities

  • Design, develop and support cross-platform digital applications
  • Drive development projects through to completion in adherence with target timelines
  • Raise, track and resolve project issues and escalate where required
  • Identify, implement and sustain processes that promote efficiency, uphold data integrity and mitigate redundancies
  • Prepare and maintain technical, project and system-related documentation and standards
  • Identify opportunities to increase integration across in-house and third-party systems
  • Provide recommendations to improve the performance, reliability and scalability of existing systems
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership on new and emerging technical platforms, frameworks and tools to enhance the business in collaboration with management
  • Coach and mentor team members as required in collaboration with the Senior Director of Digital Technology and other internal managers
  • Maintain an understanding of the principles in web marketing such as SEO, SEM/PPC, landing page optimization and their technical implications
  • Collaborate with and act as technical resource for cross-functional development teams to produce cohesive solutions
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of existing and upcoming regulatory compliance requirements and serve as technical team lead as they relate to, but not limited to customer information, privacy, data security and accessibility and their respective regulations (i.e. GDPR, CASL, AODA, etc.)

Skills and qualifications

  • 5+ years .NET experience including C#, ASP.NET 4.0/4.5, Web API
  • 5+ years experience with SQL Server, ADO.NET, Entity Framework, LINQ
  • 5+ years experience with web technologies including AJAX, JQuery, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Zurb Foundation
  • Experience working with React
  • Experience with Visual Studio
  • Experience with SOAP and RESTful web services
  • Experience with payment solutions such as Stripe, Moneris, PayPal
  • Very strong knowledge of ASP.NET based CMS platforms; experience with Sitefinity an asset
  • Strong understanding and use of code/release management practices and version control tools including Git, and Team Foundation Server
  • Strong understanding of and experience with software design patterns, object oriented programming, cross-browser development, responsive web design and development best practices
  • Strong understanding of web accessibility practices and standard, specifically the AODA
  • Strong understanding of security best practices and how to mitigate data breach risks; familiarity with PCI DSS an asset
  • Ability to work on and manage multiple projects at one time
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities and deadlines
  • Desire to work in a collaborative environment with technical and non-technical stakeholders
