Senior Mechanical Designer

Position overview

The role of Senior Mechanical Designer will be responsible for preparing models, drawings, parts lists and other engineering documentation for the design, manufacturing and to support the purchase of components as well as providing new design concepts for R&D work.

Major responsibilities

  • Develop, prepare and update technical drawings for manufacturing and purchasing
  • Preparing 3D associative solid models, detail drawings/ designs, weldment drawing, and assemblies to support production, Quality control and customer service
  • Create and maintain drawings and SOPs
  • Ability to design/create and test prototypes for R&D projects
  • Determine/Recommend best engineering /design practices and communicate that with the team
  • Develop materials and parts list for projects and equipment. Maintain records, documentation and detailed costs for projects
  • Other duties assigned as necessary

Skills and qualifications

  • Certified Solid Works Professional (CSWP) Certification required
  • Post-secondary education in a technical field
  • 5 years’ experience using SolidWorks software
  • Experience creating Bill of Materials (BOM)
  • General technical knowledge of mechanical parts and their manufacturing process, including welding, fabrication and assembly
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent design and technical skills
  • Highly motivated self-starter with excellent time management, personal organization and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) Certification an asset
