Sales Representative, Northern UK – Independent Contractor Role

Position overview

Liaising with the Sales Director, LATAM & EMEA, this individual is an independent contract sales agent, responsible for managing all current direct sales activities in Northern UK. In addition to existing customers, the Sales Representative will manage new business coming in via phone, email, tradeshows, targeted outbound efforts and other lead sources.

Based from a home office in the UK and spending time on the road visiting Merrithew clients, this independent Sales Representative will locate within the UK to market and sell Merrithew products to drive sales revenue. He/She will use their local knowledge within the UK to take a lead role in highly targeted business development within the fitness & hospitality market segments.

The Sales Representative, Northern UK will develop working relationships with Merrithew’s Canadian head office staff including: Customer Service, Manufacturing, Shipping/ Logistics and Finance to oversee any customer service and credit/payment issues specific to their accounts. This position will have the support of a Coordinator and will be trained by the Sales Director, LATAM & EMEA.

Major responsibilities

Direct sales

  • Meet and exceed annual set sales quotas
  • Have a bi-weekly sales call with Sales Director, LATAM & EMEA to review Sales Funnel and current opportunities
  • Send bi-weekly sales report outlining local activities
  • Review, understand and conduct meetings with all current key accounts to gain a better understanding of their business and unique account-specific sales opportunities
  • Promote/ negotiate/ sell/ secure orders from existing and prospective customers through a relationship-based, consultative sales approach
  • Visit on site, existing and potential new customers to fully understand their business
  • Respond with a sense of urgency to customer and prospect inquiries and prepare written presentations and price quotes
  • Develop comprehensive product knowledge of all lines of business to identify competitive features/ benefits and favorably present Company products and services
  • Keep abreast of product applications, technical services, market conditions, competitive analysis, advertising and promotional trends through the reading of pertinent literature and consulting with marketing and technical service areas
  • Create summaries that capture the above information so anyone at Merrithew would have a clear overview of the company’s current status in the market
  • Liaise with UK based logistics company (GEFCO) for issues relating to deliveries and stock
  • Liase with Sales Director, LATAM & EMEA on customer needs, problems, interests, competitive activities, and potential for new products/ services
  • Visit Merrithew headquarters in Toronto, Canada as required
  • Submit annual projections for all major Accounts, including growth strategy, and review progress quarterly with Sales Director, LATAM & EMEA and Vice-President, Commercial and Retail Sales

Business development

  • Liase with Sales Director, LATAM & EMEA to identify, pitch, secure and manage new Key Accounts
  • Visit or meet with potential partners, when/as appropriate, to develop new business
  • Advise Marketing and Sales Director, LATAM & EMEA to develop Marketing materials to present to new prospects
  • Develop prospecting skills, using social media sources including LinkedIn and Facebook, and trade associations, etc.
  • Attend and participate in trade shows, conventions, sales meetings and product seminars, as required

Administrative/Customer service

  • Manage forecasts, source deals, and track customer data using company standard CRM tools
  • Manage sales funnel and provide accurate forecasts to Sales Director, LATAM & EMEA
  • Escalate the resolution of customer problems and complaints with Merrithew Customer Service Departments
  • Coordinate sales efforts with Merrithew logistics and technical service groups
  • Communicate price increases or other pertinent information
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as needed

Skills and qualifications

  • 3-5 years in Sales, Business Development and/or Account Management role, with the ability to hit and exceed quarterly and annual sales targets
  • Highly self-motivated Independent Contractor
  • Strong business judgment and decision-making skills; ability to identify, prioritize and articulate highest impact initiatives for business development
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Able and willing to travel internationally as required
  • Superior problem solving, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and presentation proficiency along with the ability to use CRM software to track and close leads
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), both in articulating his/her ideas and gathering input from key stakeholders
  • Sales experience in the Fitness & Hospitality industry is preferable
  • Candidate can independently represent other fitness brands as long as they do not compete with Merrithew products
