Forklift Driver (Material Handler)

Position overview

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, at our manufacturing and distribution center in Scarborough this role is responsible for keeping work stations fully stocked with materials, controlling the continuous flow of productivity, assuring that the daily production and on-time-delivery schedules are met. The primary function will be the coordination and delivery of component parts necessary to sustain manufacturing operations while performing material handling duties.

We’re looking for a candidate who can work in a fast-paced environment, has a keen attention to detail and can work with others under supervision in a team environment.

Major responsibilities

  • Responsible for the movement of raw materials into the production areas
  • Drives a forklift to distribute materials, products, parts, and supplies to appropriate departments or individuals
  • Retrieve and organize totes, pallets, carts, etc. as required
  • Verifies inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock and investigates discrepancies or adjust errors
  • Determines proper storage methods, identification, and stock location based on turnover, environmental factors, and physical capabilities of facilities
  • Stores items in an orderly and accessible manner on the production floor or other areas
  • Cleans and maintains supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to ensure compliance with safety regulations
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and adhere to health & safety policies and quality standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Skills and qualifications

  • Working knowledge of shipping software and other technologies required. (Basic computer skills required)
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Forklift license required
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Physically agile and dexterous
  • Able to carry material to and from equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • 1 year experience as order picker preferred
