Intermediate Web Developer

Position overview

The Merrithew digital presence and website are important channels for educating the industry, communicating with our customers and supporting our worldwide partners. The Intermediate Web Developer is responsible for contributing to the development of a large, multi-brand corporate and e-commerce website. This includes, but is not limited to, creating dynamic and static webpages, developing custom controls, third-party integrations, testing and quality assurance, database optimization, and ensuring the website performs reliably.

You are a web developer who is just as comfortable in server-side code as you are in your browser's developer tools. On top of having a strong foundation in traditional development, you are excited about the many ways web is evolving, and the opportunities that new technologies bring. Scope of work and projects will span website, online applications, system enhancements and integrations, digital property optimization and more. Major responsibilities

  • Strive to deliver extraordinary results and new ideas
  • Design, develop and support cross-platform digital applications
  • Consistently develop and deliver high-quality, low-defect features
  • Ensure quality by following industry protocols, development standards, and processes
  • Drive development projects through to completion in adherence with target timelines
  • Raise, track and resolve project issues and escalate where required
  • Maintain, build, and enhance integrations with third-party data, ecommerce, CRM, and financial systems
  • Identify, implement and sustain processes that promote efficiency, uphold data integrity and mitigate redundancies
  • Maintain an understanding of the principles in web marketing such as SEO, SEM/PPC, landing page optimization and their technical implications
  • Push business growth objectives through new or enhanced functionality and applications
  • Act as a technical resource to the IT department and liaise with the Marketing and Communications team on relevant projects and tasks
  • Possess competent communication and organizational skills
  • Think quickly, and be a problem-solver, but stay clear of unnecessary risks
  • Work as a member of the Web Team to cultivate a fun and collaborative environment
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and qualifications

  • Minimum 3+ years Web Development experience
  • Minimum 2+ years .NET experience including C#, SQL, ASP.NET 4.0/4.5, Web API
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in HTML5, CSS, JavaScript / AJAX / Query / Kendo UI / Zurb Foundation
  • Experience working with React
  • Strong understanding of React Hooks and frontend workflow systems like Redux/Flux, Typescript
  • Experience with SOAP and RESTful web services
  • Experience with third-party integrations including Moneris, Stripe, PayPal, and others
  • Knowledge of ASP.NET based CMS; experience with Sitefinity and Iciniti an asset
  • Experience working with Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics
  • Knowledge of secure coding practices; familiarity with PCI DSS an asset
  • Strong understanding and use of code/release management practices and version control tools including Git, and Team Foundation Server
  • Deep understanding and experience with cross-browser development, and responsive design
  • Strong understanding of web accessibility practices and standard, specifically the AODA
  • Ability to work on and manage multiple projects at one time
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities and deadlines
  • Desire to work in a collaborative environment with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong eye for business – able to take business objectives and translate them into technical solutions
