Independent Sales Representative – D-A-CH

Position overview

Based from a home office in Germany, this bilingual role (German and English languages are mandatory) is responsible for selling to existing Merrithew customers, students and LTCs (Licensed Training Centers) as well as prospecting, qualifying and closing new business development opportunities in Germany, Austria & Switzerland. This Independent Sales Rep will be familiar with Merrithew and have first-hand experience selling fitness or Rehab equipment and accessories as well as direct knowledge of the local fitness and Rehab market(s) and its key customers. Primary market channels include: boutique studios, fitness clubs, Rehab Clinics, wellness facilities, corporate fitness programs, hotels, spas, sports teams and more. Administrative support is available through the Customer Service team at head office in Toronto, Canada (replacement parts, damaged shipments, etc.) and the Toronto-based LATAM & EMEA Coordinator for qualifying new leads and Saved Carts opportunities in Germany, Austria & Switzerland.

This is a contract position.

Major responsibilities

  • Meet and exceed set sales quotas with a sales pipeline of 400,000€ ($620,000 CDN) + in annual revenue
  • Manage forecasts, close deals and track customer data using company standard CRM tools
  • Identify customer needs and successfully match the appropriate product(s) to the prospective customer
  • Establish, develop and maintain business relationships with current and prospective customers
  • Respond with a sense of urgency to customer and prospect inquiries
  • Solicit and secure orders from existing and prospective customers through a relationship-based, consultative sales approach
  • Visit on site, existing and potential new customers to fully understand their business
  • Have regular meetings with the local LTCs to discuss any local issues and sales/promotional programs
  • Prepare written presentations, price quotes and studio planner diagrams, as required
  • Develop comprehensive product knowledge of all lines of business
  • Identify competitive features and benefits and favorably present Company products and services
  • Ability to work with diverse teams across multiple departments to expedite the resolution of customer and logistical issues
  • Liaise with NL based logistics company (Ziegler) for issues relating to deliveries and stock
  • Keep abreast of product applications, technical services, market conditions, competitive activities, advertising and promotional trends through the reading of pertinent literature (including trade magazines) and consulting with marketing and technical service areas
  • Report to management on customer needs, problems, interests, competitive activities, and potential for new products and services
  • Have a bi-weekly sales call with Corporate Contact to review Sales Funnel and current opportunities
  • Send bi-weekly sales report outlining local activities
  • Attend and participate in sales meetings, product seminars, trade shows and conventions as required (FIBO, etc.)
  • Visit head office in Toronto, Canada as required

Skills and qualifications

  • Ability to speak English and German fluently
  • Ability to translate English text from head office in Toronto and share local announcements and updates in German language
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience outbound and inbound Fitness or Rehab Industry-related sales experience with proven results in achieving and exceeding sales targets
  • University or College graduate, or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to work independently from a home office and stay focused on hitting and exceeding quarterly sales targets
  • Ability to drive and travel to visit existing and new accounts
  • Specific experience with Sage CRM, or equivalent an asset
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite - Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and focus on those with highest revenue potential
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Superior problem-solving, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Developed prospecting skills, with experience using social media sources including LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook, and trade associations, etc
  • Knowledge and experience with full adoption and use of CRM to track sales opportunities and close rates
