Director, Procurement and Inventory Management

Position overview

Located at our Scarborough facility, the Director, Procurement and Inventory Management is responsible for the consistency, cost effectiveness and efficiency of the procurement and inventory management process. The Director, Procurement and Inventory Management oversees the materials and procurement team, consisting of a Materials Manager, Senior Buyer, Inventory Planner, Assistant Buyer and a Purchasing and Inventory Coordinator. Working closely with the Vice President, Operations, this individual is a problem solver, people champion and seeks to improve the procurement and Inventory Management Process. This role reports directly to the Vice President, Operations.

Major responsibilities

  • Directs and coordinates supply chain functions through strategy, resource optimization, profitability maximization, and KPIs resulting in the maximization efficiency
  • Plans, manages, and coordinates all activates related to the international sourcing and procurement of necessary materials and supplies needed to meet the changing levels of product demands
  • Analyzes current inventories and procedures; suggests improvements to increase efficiency of supply chain and profitability for the company
  • Monitors the performance of suppliers, assessing their ability to meet quality and delivery requirements; identifies and qualifies new suppliers
  • Analyze and make recommendations to the senior management team regarding procurement and inventory management
  • Develop alternative supplier base including domestic and international
  • Manage international 3PL network (US/EU/UK/China)
  • Oversee and ensure the ERP system is correct; accuracy of inventory, purchase orders, shipping orders, and other records
  • Leverage exceptional cost/price analysis and negotiation skills when approving new vendors
  • Develop and ensure team adheres to purchasing policies and procedures and is responsible for controlling the procurement and purchasing budget
  • Oversee and ensure best practices procurement and inventory management and management of General Supply Agreements (“GSA”)
  • Work collaborate with other departments within the organization
  • Identify vendor cost savings opportunities and support strategic sourcing initiatives
  • Oversee a high functioning team and participate in human resources activities such as performance management and recruitment

Skills and qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years within procurement and inventory management, preferably in a manufacturing environment at a senior level
  • University degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Engineering or related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal, supervisory and leadership skills
  • Strong customer service orientation skills
  • Eager to learn new processes/systems and be proactive in continuous improvement
  • Strong information seeking and problem solving abilities
  • Proven track record in developing employees to attain higher performance standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and computer literacy
