Creative Director

Position overview

We are looking for a talented and seasoned Creative Director to support our continued global growth. This role will play a key role in Merrithew’s growth as we broaden and increase our digital business, global marketplace presence and launch key marketing initiatives over the coming months and years. The Creative Director is responsible for driving the future of our brand; you are not only a seasoned brand steward but excel at growing and directing global brands, building and driving creative strategy as well as participating in developing strategic business plans, navigating how multiple touch points, product lines and customer needs can come together to create memorable and innovative experiences.

Overseeing a team of designers and production staff, this role works closely with the Marketing Team, the Company’s Executive Team and other internal stakeholders drawing from past experiences to contribute in meaningful ways to how we can accomplish our business objectives. You know how to merge exceptional design with business success and are able to direct the creative vision across a variety of channels that work together and separately, with particular focus and experience in digital.

We are looking for a creative leader that thrives in fast-paced environments, isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and knows how to develop, support and inspire a team of talented designers.

Major responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of designers; defining goals, establishing standards and identifying areas for growth and skill development.
  • Act as brand steward; overseeing creative solutions that continue to support and further our market position and create a consistent and effective experience for our customers and broader community.
  • Drive the brand forward defining innovative solutions that leverage best practices and the latest technologies.
  • Be at the forefront of developing digital design solutions that support the growth of our digital business. This includes: website, online goods, services, applications and interactive tools.
  • Evaluate, secure and manage third-party vendors when required.
  • Provide overall concept and directions for photo-shoot and video-shoots (from planning to post-production) with a rich understanding of multi-channel uses and formats.
  • Participates in company-wide strategic projects to help drive and shape the project’s creative elements and considerations.

Skills and qualifications

  • University degree or college diploma in graphic design, art or related field.
  • Minimum of 7+ years’ experience in creative roles.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience successfully leading a creative team.
  • Highly skilled in the full Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Exemplary digital design skills with at least 5 years of proven success in developing and executing digitally-integrated campaigns and projects; experience in design/UX for web, applications, online services/tools, social is required.
  • Experience working with digital development teams; sound knowledge of CSS, HTML and web development is required.
  • Strong leadership, project management and time management skills.
  • Ability to think creatively within deadlines and pay acute attention to detail.
  • Proven success developing strong cross-functional relationships and working with senior level executives.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; copy experience considered an asset.
  • Solid business acumen, management and problem-solving skills.
