Ask the Expert: Knees Barred?

Is Total Barre hard on knees?

Q: If I have a knee injury or sensitivity in my knees, can I still do a Total Barre® class?

A: Yes you can. Merrithew offers modified Total Barre programming and Instructors learn how to modify classes for specific injuries. For knee injuries, some beneficial modifications would be to reduce the range of motion at the knee when bending the knee, take out the plies (which put more pressure on the anterior knee), replace them with squats and focus on alignment and strengthening the outer hip
