New Year, New Workshops: Build your knowledge with Merrithew

A new year means new beginnings, new plans and new chances to grow.

This year, Merrithew® is offering a number of new workshops and trainings aimed at Instructors and exercise professionals that can help you expand your knowledge base, so you can expand your offerings to clients and build your business.

STOTT PILATES® Advanced Reformer: From then to now with Moira Merrithew

Come with us on a journey through the STOTT PILATES® Advanced Reformer repertoire, examining the nuances of a selection of exercises. Learn how the movements evolved from the original, classical teachings of Joseph Pilates into the more contemporary approach we teach now. We’ll demonstrate and thoroughly break down each exercise from its original intent and compare and contrast that with the exercise as it is taught today in the STOTT PILATES method. Learn how the repertoire has evolved and continues to progress based on new information and research as it is introduced into the field, and how the Five Basic Principles and the addition of modifications continue to influence those changes.

STOTT PILATES® Advanced Matwork: From then to now with Moira Merrithew

The STOTT PILATES® Advanced Matwork workout we know today has been through myriad changes since it was originally developed by Joseph Pilates. Join us on a journey as we examine the classical roots of the exercises and how the inclusion of updated information has resulted in a more contemporary approach. Experience the movements as they were originally taught and see how the implementation of the STOTT PILATES Five Basic Principles and foundations of anatomy and biomechanics has adapted them. Explore how the exercise order, focus and performance has advanced and continues to develop as we learn more about optimal movement.

STOTT PILATES® Mini Foam Roller Flow

Dynamic exercises can help develop more physical control. Flowing sequences require more endurance from the working muscles and fluid conditioning helps develop deeper connections throughout the body. In this workshop created by the programming team at Merrithew®, learn flowing exercise sequences using a softer and shorter Foam Roller that will aid in hydrating and mobilizing fascia while increasing joint range of motion and mental focus. Transitions between movements require strength and stability as well as coordination and concentration, fostering a sense of heightened awareness and self-perception.

STOTT PILATES® Stability Barrel: Create Balance & Control

This workshop, created by the Merrithew® team, explores the integration of fascial connections in STOTT PILATES® training. Learn to use the Stability Barrel to support full-range, multidimensional movements that unlock the body’s potential as a system of movement. When inverted, the Stability Barrel can sustain full body weight, to target balance and control. The padded gentle curve on the opposing side provides a platform for support and proprioception and allows for preparatory counter-movements in full-body, flowing sequences. With a focus on multiplanar form and function, this programming helps create deeper mental focus and the concentration needed to develop core strength, increase flexibility, and achieve greater balance and kinesthetic awareness.

STOTT PILATES® Stability Barrel: Intermediate Challenge

Discover the evolution of STOTT PILATES® through a unique movement experience. See how the expertly designed Stability Barrel supports full-body, intermediate-level exercises allowing for increased multidimensional movements that hone in on the concept of ‘flow’. See how the Merrithew® movement specialists progress individual moves from a completely supported and stable position to one that requires increasing levels of balance and control. Use the Stability Barrel as the setting for a journey through the advancement of this method that continues to grow and expound through research and development. Beginning with the ideas of postural rehabilitation and muscle rebalancing, explore how newer ideas of fascial integration, proprioception and preparatory counter-movements are being incorporated in a workout that goes to the next level.

Total Barre® Creating Great Choreography to Music

The Total Barre® system provides the perfect opportunity to combine music and movement to create more than just a pre-choreographed fitness class. In this workshop, created by the movement experts at Merrithew®, learn how every aspect of choreography, from choosing individual pieces to stringing together the perfect movements, will motivate your classes and deliver exceptional results.

The Total Barre workout segment platform and movement essences are used as the backdrop in the creation of effective full-body classes. Explore every step of the choreographic process including how to select music, how to hear counts and phrasing, and develop a music vocabulary. Next, learn how to match tempo, musical breaks, accents, lyrics and crescendos / diminuendos with physical versions of the same. Leave this interactive session with an 11-segment playlist, four new choreographed segments and one additional segment created by you ready for your next class.
