An Interview with Wayne Seeto, Master Instructor Trainer

What made you decide to start training in the STOTT PILATES® Method?

When I graduated from high school I was a personal trainer which I continued to do while I was completing my undergraduate degree in Occupational Therapy.  I have always had a passion for fitness and was looking for something to complement my health degree.

How has STOTT PILATES complemented your background in Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy?

STOTT PILATES is a great fit for me because of my Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy background.  The training from STOTT PILATES has come from a therapeutic foundation and because of that I am able to use the method in my clinical approach. In both health science degrees we were taught the theory and science of therapeutic exercise but we did not have an in-depth opportunity during practical labs to highly develop our skills but STOTT PILATES has allowed me to develop practical and clinical reasoning skills and use them in a practical setting.

As an expert in the health and wellness industry, how has STOTT PILATES influenced your career throughout the years?

I have been with MH&F for the past 10 years and everyone has been very supportive.  They have given me the opportunity to travel the world and learn from experts along the way, as well as using my skills to teach others.

How do you find the STOTT PILATES® Rehabilitation Program helps your clients? How has it changed the way you work with clients?

I think the STOTT PILATES Rehab program is excellent and highly beneficial.  During school we were taught theory and basic clinical skills and the STOTT PILATES program provided a framework to integrate what we have learned into our client’s treatment plan. It provides clinicians with an active modality which is empowering for both the patient and the instructor.  The STOTT PILATES method gives the framework to assist a client and it helps rehabilitate their issues.

What are the benefits of adding Pilates Rehabilitation to a clinic?

By adding Pilates Rehabilitation to a clinic, it allows the patient to be more invested in their health and wellbeing, which ultimately leads to meaningful and satisfying outcomes. Right now there aren’t that many clinicians with Pilates as a treatment modality so I have found that I have a busy caseload as patients are seeking out my services.

What advice would you give to other healthcare professionals who might want to incorporate Pilates into their service offerings?

I would make sure you invest in your education and look for a certification course that is well known and offers continuing support and growth for your clinic.  Ensure that they have the appropriate training during and after the certification and also see if they offer equipment.

As you have progressed from an Instructor to a Master Instructor Trainer, what has been your favourite part of the journey towards this designation?

The support from MH&F has been amazing. I have been able to grow during my years with the company and they have supported this growth along the way.  I am provided with great support to continue my education and pursue other outside interests. I have enjoyed mentoring others all of the world and also learning from my peers. I am excited to be a part of the Merrithew Mindful Movement World Tour and look forward to meeting everyone.
