Q. Why is the Stability Chair™ a useful piece of equipment for a pregnant client?

A. Pilates is a safe and effective form of exercise to do when pregnant but clients must absolutely consult and receive approval from their medical practitioner before beginning or continuing an exercise program. This is not a time to increase a client’s fitness level but to maintain a healthy state for mom and baby.

With so many exercises that can be done in a seated or standing position, four point kneeling and side lying, the Stability Chair is a versatile piece of equipment to incorporate into their program. It is important to change positions often with a pregnant client to ensure they remain comfortable while including exercises done in all planes of movement.

During the second and third trimester the supine position is avoided for health and safety reasons making the Stability Chair one of the easiest and most functional pieces of Pilates equipment to use. Seated Footwork, unilateral balance exercises, four point kneeling Scapula Isolations and arm work, and side lying (on the floor) targeting the hips are just a few of the exercises that can be easily modified to ensure a safe and enjoyable workout.
