The Movement’s Roots
With lives getting busier, more complex with little time to “unplug” from work and stresses, the demands on every individual continues to grow. The need for time to reflect, to be present and to be mindful is greater than it’s ever been. When we started our company in 1988, we wanted to help people of all ages and fitness abilities lead healthier lives. That mission remains true to today.
STOTT PILATES, the foundation of our mind-body modalities, is the contemporary approach to the original Pilates method developed by Joseph Pilates, and is based on modern principles of exercise science and rehabilitation. Working with the concepts of the original Pilates method, Lindsay G. Merrithew and Moira Merrithew have collaborated with a team of physical therapists/physiotherapists, sports medicine and exercise professionals to dissect and reconnect this unique form of exercise into a comprehensive, systematic, contemporary approach to the original teachings. Ongoing R&D results in the inclusion of current and proven principles of exercise science and rehabilitation, making STOTT PILATES the safest and most effective training method available.
Intelligent, safe and responsible
The root of the STOTT PILATES method includes preparatory exercises and modifications that allow the technique to be appropriate for many different body types and abilities, making it applicable to sport-specific and rehabilitative training, and everyday life. It is out of this rich, and innovative foundation of modern exercise principles that we have developed our growing family of mind-body modalities. Modalities that provide opportunities for personal trainers, healthcare professionals, group fitness instructors, athletes and other specialists to diversify their knowledge and cater to a wider client base. All of our modalities are based on our philosophy of effective and responsible exercise being the foundation to a better lifestyle.

Expanding the mindful movement forward
As the needs of our community has evolved, so too has the mindful movement category. We are now charting the path for creating, educating and supporting new mind-body modalities. These new modalities include and are influenced by other fitness practices such as functional fitness, fascial fitness and high-intensity interval training, to name a few. We’ve taken what we’ve learned and developed over the last 25 years with STOTT PILATES and applied these principles in conjunction with ever-developing exercise science to create more high-calibre equipment, programming and education. The result are our new brands, ZEN•GA™, CORE™ Athletic Conditioning & Performance Training™ and Total Barre™ which continue to bring mindful movement into wider areas of fitness.
As we look ahead to the next 25 years, we see mindful movement growing to be a part of everyone’s fitness regimen. Our philosophy of providing responsible, safe exercise is unwavering and our goal remains to promote the integrity and credibility of our mind-body modalities to professionals and consumers worldwide.
