The Intensive Program

The STOTT PILATES Intensive program is for fitness and health professionals. This program prepares you to teach STOTT PILATES Level 1 Matwork and equipment-based repertoires safely, effectively and with confidence.

Functional Anatomy (FA)

Designed for those with some movement training and exposure to Pilates, Comprehensive courses cover functional anatomy and the practical skills needed to develop effective and motivating Level 1 Matwork and equipment-based programs.

The STOTT PILATES Injuries & Special Populations course equips you with the skills required to address a broad range of physical challenges among your clients. Completion of ISP is required for full certification.

The Rehabilitation Program

The Rehabilitation program is specifically for licensed physical therapists, occupational therapists, sports medicine professionals and chiropractors wishing to integrate modified STOTT PILATES exercises for injury prevention and rehabilitation into their practices.

Matwork Pelvis, Spine & Scapula (RM1)


Rehab courses are available at many of our training locations worldwide.  Please click here for a complete listing of training options worldwide.  Currently, training isn’t offered at this location, but and check back regularly for updates.

This module introduces you to the biomechanical principles of STOTT PILATES and how they apply to modified Matwork exercises. Light equipment including balls, bands and rollers are used to emphasize lumbo-pelvic and shoulder girdle stabilization and the role they play in rehabilitation and injury prevention. Typically, courses are conducted over 3 days.

What you will learn:

  • Review of STOTT PILATES basic principles
  • Identification of proper execution and movement patterns
  • Effective verbal cueing and imagery
  • Clinical problem solving using the STOTT PILATES method
  • A focus on spinal, pelvic and scapular conditions.
  • Over 35 exercises plus multiple modifications

Reformer Pelvis, Spine & Scapula (RR1)

This module serves as an introduction to the biomechanical principles of STOTT PILATES and their application to modified exercises on the Reformer. Focus is on lumbo-pelvic and shoulder girdle stabilization and the role they play in rehabilitation and injury prevention. Typically, courses are conducted over 3 days.

What you will learn:

  • Review of STOTT PILATES basic principles
  • Identifying proper execution and movement patterns
  • Effective verbal cueing and imagery
  • Clinical problem solving using the STOTT PILATES method
  • A focus on spinal, pelvic and scapular conditions.
  • Over 60 Reformer exercises plus multiple modifications

Matwork Peripheral Joints (RM2)

LEVEL: 1      18 hours

Building on the biomechanical and stabilization principles learned in RM1, this module will teach you exercises that are designed to prevent and rehabilitate common injuries by balancing and strengthening muscles around the joints in order to restore and maintain healthy movement patterns. Emphasis on core stability while mobilizing the peripheral joints. Typically courses are conducted over 3 days.

What you will learn:

  • Review of STOTT PILATES basic principles
  • Identifying proper execution and movement patterns
  • Effective verbal cueing and imagery
  • Clinical problem solving using the STOTT PILATES method
  • Application to injuries of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee and ankle
  • Over 25 exercises plus multiple modifications

Prerequisite:

  • RMR1 or RM1

This module begins with a review of the biomechanical and stabilization principles learned in RR1, this module demonstrates exercises designed to rehabilitate and prevent common injuries by balancing and strengthening muscles around the joints. Emphasis is on core stability and peripheral joint mobility to restore and maintain healthy movement patterns. Typically, courses are conducted over 3 days.

  • Review of STOTT PILATES basic principles
  • Identifying proper execution and movement patterns
  • Effective verbal cueing and imagery

Total Barre™ Courses

Total Barre™ is a high-energy program that focuses on strength, flexibility, stamina and dynamic stability by combining elements from Pilates, dance, cardio and strength training. Programming is driven by music which increases coordination, motivation and improve movement quality. Incorporating the Total Barre Foundational Principles, this program teaches choreography, exercise essence and correct biomechanics of movements as well as how to cue effectively and safely to music.

Prerequisites:
The intensive courses are recommended for certified fitness instructors, personal trainers, and other fitness & health professionals who want to expand their knowledge and enhance their business. Applicants must have, at least three years experience teaching fitness, dance or movement, familiarity with the works of Joseph Pilates, formal anatomy training and a working knowledge of muscle origins, insertions and functions, in order to attend the course.
A Note Regarding Exams:
You are not obliged to write (and pay for) two exams if you are planning to take both courses. You may choose to wait until completion of the second course to write your exam (a combined Matwork and Reformer exam). If you prefer to pause between courses, you may choose to take an exam to become certified in Matwork only, and another exam (a combined Matwork and Reformer exam) after completing the second course to become certified in Reformer work. In this case two exam fees would apply.
