STOTT PILATES® Teaching Matwork and Reformer to First-Timers

This workshop, developed by the MERRITHEW™ team, provides the tools required to ensure a client’s first Pilates class is motivating, stimulating and will keep them coming back for more. Learn how to structure an introductory class to include select STOTT PILATES® Essential-level Matwork and Reformer exercises while maintaining pace and flow. Discover techniques to ensure participants ‘feel’ the workout, while still maintaining proper form. The use of demonstration, imagery and concise cuing and correcting is discussed while focusing on group safety in the studio.

Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss how to introduce the STOTT PILATES Five Basic Principles.
  2. Understand how to entice clients through the introductory session with a combination of Matwork and Reformer exercises.
  3. Learn how to motivate and encourage first-time clients.
  4. Learn exercise variations and modifications for specific body types and how to incorporate them in an introductory group class.
