Instructor Trainers

The STOTT PILATES® Faculty, or members of our esteemed team of Instructor Trainers, is made up of highly qualified and internationally sought-after educators who are known for their dedication, professionalism and attention to detail. All of our faculty members hold full certification in the STOTT PILATES method and have achieved additional designations to complement their training. A diverse group, they come from various backgrounds including physical therapy, exercise science, athletic therapy, dance and group and personal fitness training to name a few. Every member of the team strives to uphold the highest standards of training that have been developed worldwide.

Karen Louise Christensen

Århus, Denmark

Karen Christensen started dancing at the age of 7 after a bout of polio.  She went on to be a professional ballet dancer working in companies in the US and Europe.  Karen later took an education as a Psychomotor therapist and became the leader of a physical therapy unit at a nursing home. Being pulled back into the world of dance again, Karen continued to work with modern dance companies in Denmark as ballet mistress, rehearsal assistant and guest teacher and opened her own dance school in Copenhagen, later moving to Aarhus to work with a dance company there. After studying the original Pilates method including training with Romana Kryszanowska, Karen chose the STOTT PILATES™® contemporary approach for her certification in 2002 and has worked with it ever since.  She is an Instructor Trainer for MERRITHEW™ specializing in STOTT PILATES™® Matwork, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, and Barrels. She continues to train professional dancers in classical ballet and Pilates.

Katharina Kühnen

Munich, Germany


Katharina Kühnen completed her studies in the Balletschool of the Vienna State Opera and from 1997-2001 was a member of the Vienna State Opera Ballet. She moved to Munich to join the Bavarian State Opera Ballet, where she danced until August 2008. Katharina had her first experiences with STOTT PILATES™® while dancing and soon discovered that she had dicovered a new passion and a second career. Between 2009 to 2010 she trained as a STOTT PILATES™ Instructor and in 2011 she became an Instructor Trainer for MERRITHEW™ specializing in STOTT PILATES™ Mat and Reformer. Katharina spends most of her time teaching and educating at Pilatesbody in Munich. In addition, she teaches at a dance studio and in a physical therapy and ostheopathic centre where she enjoys instructing the dancers of the Bavarian State Opera Ballet.

Katherine Brown

Portland, Oregon USA

Katherine came to the Pilates industry from a dance background, having danced professionally in New York, Oregon and Idaho.  While at University in New York, she came to love Pilates and relied on it to keep her fit and injury free.  She achieved full certification with STOTT PILATES™® in 2010 after training first at Pacific Northwest Pilates with Master IT Melanie Byford-Young and later in England with YMCAfit. In 2011, she joined the team at the UK Licensed Training Centre, YMCA Pilates Academy as an Instructor Trainer for MERRITHEW™ specializing in STOTT PILATES™, and is qualified in ZENGA™ Matwork and Equipment.  She greatly enjoys helping people understand their own bodies and seeing the positive impact this method can have on functional fitness.

Keiko Idetsu

Tokyo, Japan

A physiotherapist since 1998, Keiko became a STOTT PILATES™® Certified Instructor in 2005 and became an Instructor Trainer for MERRITHEW™ specializing in STOTT PILATES™ in 2007.   Currently, she works at an orthopedic clinic and enjoys adopting the STOTT PILATES™ method in to a rehabilitation setting. She also acts as a mentor to local students, providing educational support with her years of experience teaching courses and workshops.

Kelley Berting

With a background in fitness and dance, Kelley has always had a keen interest in wellness, and was initially drawn to Pilates as a means of recovering from injuries.  She received her STOTT PILATES™® Certification in 2006, and in 2009 she became an Instructor Trainer for MERRITHEW™ specializing in STOTT PILATES™.  Kelly is also an ACE Certified Personal Trainer, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Saskatchewan.  In addition to teaching Pilates, she works full time as a Police Officer.  Kelly is an energetic instructor who enjoys passing her enthusiasm for the STOTT PILATES™ method to her clients.
