Position Summary

The Director of Human Resources will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Human Resources function.   You will be accountable for all employee and labour relations issues as well as the effective development of the Human Resources strategy, training and development, recruitment and selection and compensation and benefits.


Key Responsibilities:


1. Talent Acquisition and Management:
  • Source, interview and/or recommend new hires for all levels 
  • Work with Senior Management to determine organizational structure and needs based on current and future growth and identify and help develop our employees to create a talent pipeline that feeds various roles and career paths to meet these needs
  • Ensure clear performance standards are communicated; performance is assessed and measured through effective informal and formal evaluation practices; ensure all formal evaluations are completed, documented and approved on-time
  • Advise and assist supervisors and managers with a broad range of human resource functions including coaching, conflict resolution and performance management
  • Ensure personnel files are complete and have proper performance management documentation

2. Compensation and Benefits:

  • Support remuneration and promotion processes to ensure retention of staff and to maximize staff performance
  • Develop and manage bonus, commission and other recognition programs to engage and motivate employees
  • Manage and administer leaves of absence, worker compensation claims and assist employees with benefits questions
  • Ensuring proper tracking of employee vacation time, sick time and lieu time
  • Stay current with compensation trends and the competitive landscape and provide recommendations to optimize compensation     

 3. Training and Development:

  • Champion a culture of continuous training and development
  • Work with management to determine training requirements for all staff, participate in the development and delivery of all training and ensure all training has been completed as scheduled
  • Ensure new staff receive thorough training in all required areas and monitor new staff progression to determine if further training is required

4. Compliance:

  • Ensure employee records are managed in accordance with Human Resources policies and procedures best practices
  • Identify and implement process improvements in records compliance and management
  • Develop and enforce corporate policies and procedures
  • Stay current with legislation and ensure compliance with employment standards, privacy, occupational health and safety and other applicable legislation and regulatory guidelines

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in developing and leading training programs within an organization is a must
  • 8+ years progressive experience in Human Resources
  • Experience in managing Human Resources in both a manufacturing and service environment
  • Excellent leadership and management capabilities
  • Impeccable organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, communication, presentation and project management skills
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field.  CHRP  would be considered an asset
  • Strong understanding of employment laws and benefits administration in Ontario
  • Proficient computer skills, at the intermediate level – Word and Excel
