Position Overview

As a senior member of the Marketing & Communications team, the Creative Director plays a pivotal role in shaping the corporate image of MH&F and its sub-brands to the global marketplace.  The Creative Director is responsible for translating marketing objectives into creative strategies, designs and flawless creative execution. Overseeing a team of designers and a Senior Production Coordinator, the Creative Director will oversee and manage all creative projects (traditional and digital channels), including concept development, graphic design, graphic layout, product branding and packaging, advertising, digital design, signage and more.

This role works closely with our commercial equipment, retail accessories and education training and programming teams to support their objectives while delivering on the creative vision set by the President and CEO.  The ideal candidate will have exceptional traditional and digital design skills, extensive experience managing and leading a team of designers, and be adept at translating strategy into creative executions that support and strengthen our brand image.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing and delivering strategic design solutions for a range of projects (i.e. web, product development/updates, collateral, branding) across a range of online/offline integrated marketing channels 
  • Develop comprehensive creative marketing plan on an annual basis that aligns with corporate and departmental objectives
  • Establish, develop and maintain creative, conceptual and writing standards for our brand and sub-brands and participate in the design and execution of our retail and commercial products
  • Acts as a people manager for a team of design professionals. Supervises work, completes performance reviews, sets goals and actively mentors and motivates
  • Work cross-functionally with internal departments to understand objectives, develop results-oriented ideas that support objectives and align with brand vision and guidelines
  • Ensure quality creative/editorial content is delivered on time and on budget. Works closely with Senior Production Coordinator to evaluate, secure and manage third-party vendors. 
  • Experience leading strategic brainstorming sessions, campaign development and creative brief development and directing creative execution
  • Develop a strategic decision-making and governance process
  • Provide overall concept and art direction for photo-shoot and video-shoots: art direct pre- and post-production process
  • Researches, explores, and communicates best practices in design and discerns which competitive ideas are most effective
  • Participates in ad hoc special projects as required, and other tasks as assigned

Skills & Qualifications

  • University degree or college diploma in graphic design, art or related field
  • Minimum of 7+ years’ experience in creative roles
  • 3-5 years’ experience successfully leading a creative team 
  • Highly skilled in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark, Dreamweaver; working knowledge of HTML, Javascript, CSS, DHTM, Microsoft Office Suite.  Experience with Final Cut Pro is an asset
  • Exceptional aesthetic sense and intuitive understanding of design principles
  • Strong traditional and digital design skills with at least 3 years of proven success in developing and executing integrated campaigns and projects
  • Strong leadership, project management and time management skills
  • User-centered design including profiling and usability methodologies
  • Ability to think creatively within deadlines and pay acute attention to detail
  • Proven success developing strong cross-functional relationships and working with senior level executives
  • Previous experience leading a design team in a corporate environment with high involvement from senior level executives
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; ad copy experience considered an asset 
  • Able to provide comprehensive portfolio of work demonstrating concept development through to execution
  • Solid business acumen, management and problem-solving skills
